LIFT (Learning Initiative for Technology) Hands-on Course about Wind Power

During the course, participants learn about the mechanics of wind turbines, then build and test their own mini wind-turbines. We will first give a brief presentation on the benefits and mechanics of wind power, followed by a short demonstration on how to make a turbine. Participants will then construct their own turbines, test different blade shapes and orientation, and experiment with different materials such as:

  • Multimeter to measure the energy output of a design

  • Fan to blow into the turbines

  • Turbine setup where participants will mount their design

  • Assorted sheets to make the blades (plastic, paper, manila folder, thin cardboard, plastic)

Presented by Protostar, a Scarsdale High School Student Learning Technology Initiative.
