LIFT (Learning Initiative for Technology) Hands-on Course about Wind Power
During the course, participants learn about the mechanics of wind turbines, then build and test their own mini wind-turbines. We will first give a brief presentation on the benefits and mechanics of wind power, followed by a short demonstration on how to make a turbine. Participants will then construct their own turbines, test different blade shapes and orientation, and experiment with different materials such as:
Multimeter to measure the energy output of a design
Fan to blow into the turbines
Turbine setup where participants will mount their design
Assorted sheets to make the blades (plastic, paper, manila folder, thin cardboard, plastic)
Presented by Protostar, a Scarsdale High School Student Learning Technology Initiative.
