Program Description

Event Details

In 1925, Alfred Hitchcock directed his first film, The Pleasure Garden. 101 years later, we'll revisit the master's career, focusing on his technical prowess and political conscience. The focal point of our conversation will be Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt, but Lifeboat and Rope will also be discussed at length. Seeing all three films would be recommended (but of course not necessary).

Please watch the film on your own before the discussion.

Jeff Hughes is a PhD student in American Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, after earning multiple degrees from the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He is a frequent film lecturer at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY.
